Considering that I have been offline some time, a lot of news has accumulated, especially when talking about Google. Anyway, not to write a whole opus on Google (like there is not enough talking about Google), here are some things that Google decided to introduce while I was in the state of hibernation:
- Google Suggest arose a lot of commotion in SEO world. According to some people, with this change, it will also change habits of Internet surfers (they will rely more on things suggested by Google) — it seems as logical sequence of events.
Definitely, the adaptation of SEO and PPC tactics to the new Google feature should be considered as a wise thing to do — however, it should be mentioned that the change is currently functioning exclusively on google.com searches, while the local versions (.hr, .co.uk, .de) are left out of this change. Anyhow, they don’t waste time accros the sea, so you can read 9 ideas of how Google Suggest will change search marketing, SEO marketing or how to get the best out of Google Suggest. In retrospect to the part about PPC, whereas I haven’t noticed many commentars on the topic — the fact is that this will influence the paid ads, basically because of the absence of long tail in results suggested by Google Suggest. Also, that means that the suggested terms (if already not) will be more competitive (read: more expensive), while the influence of Google Suggest could mostly reflect on the more cheaper keywords that could be obtained using long tail principle. Less number of long tail searches, bigger bids on general keywords equals bigger profit for Google.
- Google Chrome. After Google Suggest and changes made to AdWords Quality Score that I had already talked about, Google is publishing its own browser. It is not necessary to say what and how, because Chrome arouse huge hype so I really doubt that you haven’t heard/read or tested the new link in the process of Internet googleization. For those who are not in touch with new things, but would like to be, can find many round ups, top features and FAQs about Google Chrome.
- Google AdWords recorded several modifications/add-ins that should be mentioned.
- Adwords Editor guide. An excellent application for AdWords campaign menagment got its official guide. PDF document can be downloaded here.
- Quality Scorechanges are slowly revealing. PPC Book gives you a few screenshots of the new Quality Score and First page bids. BgTheory has published a chart of Quality Score factors, so you can compare the changes that will take place sooner or later on all accounts.
- Google has introduced the Automatic match system. Uhh, another feature on which I have no opinion. To sum up: “Automatic Match is Google’s new feature that allows AdWords managers to receive clicks in their PPC campaigns without the need to select specific keywords.” According to the current information, it seems that Automatic match will become a default setting for all accounts once put in work! This really requires attention, somehow I am a bit sceptical about these automatic additions with the only purpose to drain more money out of advertisers’ pockets — expanded broad match is a stupidity of grand proportions, and what to expect from all this?
- Apart form mentioned, Google has included a new report into the AdWords system, so now you can review clicks and ad displays depending on geolocation. At the end, Website Optimizer gained a couple of new and useful features.
