During SES San Jose conference (held in mid October), an interesting cooperation between Adobe and Yahoo in the fields od technology of displaying ads within PDF documents was mentioned. Even though, this kind of advertising was discussed last year, it seems that this kind of cooperation is close to be published (currently in beta version).

There are about 256 millions of PDF documents available on the Internet. It is obvious how large and unexplored space for advertisers this is, and by placing targeted ads, they could reach targeted public; but on the other hand, publishers would gain another profitable bussiness…

Implementation process of PDF ads sounds very simple:

  1. Register in order to get the account
  2. Upload PDF document you want to ‘fill’ it with ads
  3. PDF document is sent to your e-mail and it is ready for further distribution

After that, Adobe’s algorithm and Yahoo’s advertising network will make sure that the ads will be displayed along with the relevant content.

Main advantages could be:

  • Dynamic ad linking. Every time somebody opens PDF document, the most related ad will be displayed (it is possible to apply Geo Targeting, Day Parting and similar techniques&hellip).
  • There is a possibility of viral document sharing — you download the document and pass it on your friend — the ad stays within the document.
  • It is possible to specify appearance and position of the ad.
  • In case that the reader wants to print the document — ads disappear.

Bad news — it is in beta, currently available only for US publishers.
