On account of the chronic lack of time, I’ll try to cover in a more general post the most important things that have occurred in the internet marketing and search engine area during the previous month…

  • At the start of the previous month, Google refreshed its SEO Beginners Guide, and localized it into 40 world languages – one of them being Croatian.
  • A few days after Google’s SEO document appeared, a very detailed Google Analytics guide was released – for those wanting to get something more out of Google Analytics, I certainly recommend that they take a look at the Google Analytics Power User Guide.
  • DoubleClick made use of the month of June and published the 2008 Year-in-Review Benchmarks (PDF document), which might make interesting reading for marketing professionals, agencies and the media.
  • ioninteractive has published an article with an interesting name — The Golden Age of search marketing, which appears to me to be a good indication of what we should be expecting – OK, probably a little later for us here in Croatia (and the region) than in western countries, but then again…
  • The psychology of colours and marketing is a topic that has (naturally) been present before the webs development, you’ve probably noticed some examples on the web, and it is interesting to see what colours are perceived by people in certain ways…
  • For those who like to play with various SEO/SEM/Analytics tools, be sure to check out the tools found in the Website Analytics Toolbox post — a few hours of entertainment guaranteed ;)

Internet Advertising in Croatia

One of the good things that has occurred in the previous month has been the inclusion of Croatia into the latest reports by the European Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). For those who don’t know, the IAB is the largest non-profit association of internet advertisers who comprise media and technological companies throughout the world, with the AdEx report presented in lecture form during this year’s Interact Congress held between the 10th and 12th June in Brussels (you can get the slides in pdf format here).

Besides presenting yearly analyses of the European markets, their growth in the past year, and ad formats that are most useful, this report is important for us because we’ll be able to in the future compare the growth of the Croatian market with respect to other markets, and consequently draw more realistic conclusions concerning the numbers that you often read in the Croatian Internet market.

Finally, two topics in which I myself participated: an article on the topic of internet advertising in Croatia where I gave a commentary to the Lider weekly, and a commentary on PPC advertising in Croatia (with an emphasis on Google AdWords and tourism), which I gave on the Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) show eCroatia. In case you’re interested in this topic, you can watch it on YouTube:
